A new long distance trail is about to become a reality. The Cheshire Circuit (TCC) is the brainchild of Martyn Bracegirdle MBE.
Martyn has spent many months putting together a roughly circular route which takes in Cheshire and Shropshire, so a large part of it is within PNFS country. Of course the trail can be joined at any point, but nominally the start and end point is Frodsham (SJ 51724 77912) in Cheshire. From here the trail travels south along the established Sandstone Trail quickly passing PNFS Signpost 596 at Dunsdale Hollow (SJ 51404 76211) and then continuing to Whitchurch (SJ 54149 41574) before turning east towards the Shropshire Union Canal at Audlem (SJ 65860 43496). The route then heads north, along the Weaver Walk to the Manchester Ship Canal. Finally, Frodsham Marsh (SJ 50772 78807) is crossed before returning to the starting point. The total length of the trail is approximately 100 miles.
The Cheshire Circuit (TCC) has been split into 8 day walks each about 12 miles. For those who like 'knee benders' and those who wish for more leisurely days, you may adjust the stops to suit your ambitions. You will find a few alternatives for those who prefer a little bit more quiet tarmac or for those who like a little more towpath.
This is not a mountain walk; you find these on the Pennine Way or the Coast to Coast etc! However TCC has much variation and there is up-and-down on the Sandstone Trail.
The link will take you through quiet parts of Shropshire and Cheshire seldom walked. The Weaver Walk visits Audlem, Nantwich, Winsford and Northwich and passes a number of 'brown sites', giving a fascinating glimpse of times gone by when Cheshire industry and the River Weaver were more commercial and active.
